Overview information

Habitat invites people of all backgrounds, races and religions to join us by applying for a home and by helping to build houses for families in need.

Our local Habitat affiliate has build over 80 houses in Spartanburg since its founding in 1987. At that time, concerned citizens from First Presbyterian and Westminster Presbyterian churches joined together to found our local affiliate in order to improve the living conditions of Spartanburg families. We provided homes for seven families in 2008 and we expect to complete five homes in 2009.

The need for simple, basic, affordable housing is great in Spartanburg. When a family qualifies for a Habitat home by demonstrating

a) the need.
b) the ability to pay the mortgage.
c) the willingness to partner with us.

We not only build homes, it has been demonstrated time and time again that we change lives, especially the lives of the children who, perhaps for the first time, have a safe, nurturing environment in which to grow and learn.
