Volunteer

Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer-dependent ministry.  We have a need for individuals and groups of all -- or no -- skill levels and look forward to working with you.

Volunteers will learn new skills -- from framing, installing dry wall, flooring, insulation to landscaping -- whatever your interests, we have a place for you. Habitat Spartanburg welcomes more than 5,000 volunteers annually who contribute more than 20,000 hours of service to our organization.

We have volunteer opportunities in the following areas:

Construction Site: Our construction site is supervised by skilled Habitat Construction Supervisors. The site is open year-round for volunteers on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday.

Note: Flip flops and open-toed shoes are strictly prohibited on the work site.

ReStore: Our ReStore is open for volunteers 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday. We can always use volunteers who are willing to perform various tasks in a retail environment. These tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting with the scheduling of home and commercial donations and pick-ups, receiving donations in the warehouse, cleaning and transporting merchandise, supporting the sales counter team as well as meeting, greeting and assisting customers.

Note: Closed-toed shoes are required to volunteer in the ReStore.

WHAT CAN VOLUNTEERS EXPECT FROM HABITAT?

Safe Work Environments: Safety orientations are held every construction day, and safety equipment and tools are provided.

A Chance to Learn New Skills: No experience is necessary -- our site supervisors are trained to teach you everything you need to know.

Patience, Perspective and a Sense of Humor: We work hard and have fun doing it!

Owens Corning volunteers work on the Habitat Spartanburg Drayton sites. WHAT CAN HABITAT EXPECT FROM VOLUNTEERS?

Prompt Arrival: Having everyone at the work site on-time makes our sites more efficient, as we begin the safety briefing at the beginning of the day and right after lunch. This allows us to finish our home on schedule.

Safety: Follow instructions from your site supervisor for safety procedures and equipment usage.

Commitment: If you sign-up to volunteer, we count on you, and so do our Habitat families!

Flexibility: Sometimes weather doesn't cooperate, a task doesn't go according to plan, or we need to refocus our efforts. Either way, we'll make it work and hope you will too! Our goal is for your team to have a wonderful, team-bonding experience so if you have any questions or concerns, please let a Habitat team member know.
