Habitat for Humanity is a volunteer dependent ministry. We utilize volunteer work to perform as much of our construction as possible, in order to keep cost down. Each year, Habitat Spartanburg welcomes over 3,700 volunteers who contribute more than 16,000 hours of service to our organization. If you are interested in any volunteer opportunities, please contact Carrie Vaughn at (864) 591-2221 x105.

Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg can always use volunteers in the following areas of service:

Construction Site:  Our construction site is supervised and led under the direction of skilled Habitat staff members. The site is open for volunteers on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday year round. Volunteers complete 90% of our total labor which includes: framing, roofing, siding, hanging drywall, painting, and landscaping. You can expect to work hard, meet new people, and learn new skills! Volunteers looking to commit more than one day are encouraged to become part of our regular volunteer team. Regular volunteers come to the construction site at least once a week to volunteer. Our regular volunteer team occasionally helps our staff to lead large volunteer groups during special events. Our affiliate will provide you with all the tools you need. Join our team, meet other regular volunteers, and together give back to the community.

Note: Flip flops and open toed shoes are strictly prohibited on the work site.

ReStore: Our ReStore is open for volunteers Tuesday-Saturday from 9:00am-5:00pm. We can always use volunteers who are willing to perform various tasks in a retail environment. These tasks include, but are not limited to, assisting with the scheduling of home and commercial donations and pick-ups, receiving donations in the warehouse, cleaning and transporting merchandise, supporting the sales counter team as well as meeting, greeting and assisting with customers/shoppers.  For those volunteers that call themselves, "Mr. and Ms. Fix It," we can use your help in testing appliances to determine if electronic items are repairable. You will get to schedule your own hours and work with our friendly ReStore staff!

Note: Closed toed shoes are required to volunteer in the ReStore!

Committees: Our affiliate cannot function without the support from the Spartanburg community. We utilize volunteers on our committees that are willing to work alongside our Habitat staff to drive our mission and spread our message. We are always looking for volunteers to serve on the following committees: Family Selection (qualify families to receive a home), Family Support (mentor families as they work to get their home), Construction (decide on location and type of homes to be built), and Resource (fundraising).

Becoming a Habitat Volunteer is as easy as 1, 2, 3!

Step 1
Volunteer Waiver: All volunteers must fill out a waiver of liability.  Please note that ALL volunteers must be at least 16 years old. Volunteers ages 16-17 must have an adult accompany them during their volunteer service as well as have their waiver of liability signed by a parent.

Step 2
Construction Site: Sign up to be a construction volunteer by registering here or contact the volunteer coordinator, Carrie Vaughn at 864-591-2221 ext 105. Construction site volunteers should complete the Volunteering on a Habitat for Humanity Job Site course prior to your scheduled build date. Volunteers that take this course will receive a certificate of completion from our affiliate.

ReStore or Committee: Contact the Volunteer Coordinator, Carrie Vaughn at 864-591-2221 ext 105 to sign up to be a ReStore or Committee Volunteer. ReStore volunteers should complete the ReStore Safety and Loss Control online safety course prior to you scheduled service date.

Step 3
Arrive a few minutes prior to your scheduled time to volunteer to get signed in and fill out a waiver of liability.
