Volunteers are the Lifeblood of Habitat

June 13th, 2018

Charlene Lyle is the epitome of dedication - one of Habitat Spartanburg's most dedicated volunteers who has worked 3,596 hours (as of January 2018) building Habitat homes. In total, Charlene has worked on 46 Habitat Spartanburg homes!

Charlene is a member of an elite group - our regular volunteers who faithfully give one, usually two, days weekly to building homes for deserving families.

"After retirement I was looking for something to do and Habitat seemed like a good fit," Charlene said. "I look back now and think of all that I've learned, all of the people - now friends who I met and I'm so thankful for the experience."

Charlene has mentored potential homeowners - and other volunteers - and over the past 8 years, has become  revered for her experience, upbeat attitude and tenacity to get the job done. Just this year, Charlene has joined the Habitat Board of Directors.

"We have so many volunteers - those who work in on the construction site, the ReStore and in our office and we absolutely could not continue to deliver homes to families in need without them," said Habitat Spartanburg Executive Director Lee Close. "They make our jobs easier - they serve as experienced volunteers who pass their knowledge down to others and I just can't say enough about the entire group. They are so giving, so loyal. We are blessed to have them with us."

Habitat Spartanburg is in need of volunteers with all skill levels. We welcome individuals, corporate te.ams, church groups - give us a call or email and we'll work with you! Reach out to Volunteer Coordinator at  864.591.2221, Ext. 105 to get started.
