Community Involvement

Spartanburg is our home - and we're incredibly blessed to be deeply involved in neighborhood transformation. We couldn't do our work without others who are committed to working with us every year to achieve our goals -- we need volunteers and funds to keep our mission alive.

"Habitat for Humanity is an extraordinary organization that transitions people out of poverty - those who need a helping hand - into a home that they can afford. This heightens expectations for all family members so students exceed in school and parents achieve their goals for their family."

John Miller , President and Chief Executive Officer - Denny's

"I can't say enough about the volunteers and the donors who make owning a home possible. For years, I've had a dream of owning my own home in a safe neighborhood and now my dream is a reality, thanks to Habitat Spartanburg."

Valarie Stridiron - Habitat Spartanburg Homeowner in Process

"Building a stronger, healthier community takes everyone. Everyone must be on board to raise low-income families out of substandard conditions and Habitat for Humanity understands that. It's not just about homes, it's about giving families the tools they need to become successful."

Bill Barnet , Board Chairman - Northside Development Group

"Morrisette as a company felt like Habitat would be a good organization to partner with. We have six locations across three states and Habitat has a presence in all of those areas. Morrisette loves being able to give back to the communities in which we are based. And selfishly it is always a great day working with fellow employees outside of work and helping others, which ALWAYS turns out as us 'feeling' like we are the recipients of the help!"

Steve Thomas - Morrisette Paper, Duncan

"Habitat for Humanity is a natural fit for LifeSong Church. When God brought us the opportunity to partner with Habitat on a build, our partners immediately responded. People are coming together on this project, each using their unique talents to serve others in a tangible way, and having fun in the process! We're seeing parents serving with their teenage children, ladies life groups signing up to volunteer together, husbands and wives teaming up and a big group of our youth tackling landscaping. It is exciting to see our people engaging in the mission -- and loving it."

Elena Bowling - LifeSong Church

"I enjoy volunteering with Habitat for Humanity for many reasons. Helping someone achieve the dream of homeownership is very rewarding on its own. I also like to volunteer with my fellow team members which makes it a great team building opportunity. We get to interact in a very different type of setting in comparison to our normal work surroundings. The staff is very easy to work with and I am always learning something new. At the end of the day, we are always amazed at the work we were able to complete."

Ethan Burroughs , Spartanburg Market President - Wells Fargo Bank

"Working on the construction of a home for Habitat was on my bucket list."

Kristyn McGraw , Volunteer -

"I feel that the life lessons that are learned on your work sites will help to shape our students into involved and caring citizens. The confidence each student gains each time we work could not be taught anywhere else."

Johnny Breitenbach , Woodworking Teacher - S.C. School for the Deaf and the Blind

"I feel like I can do anything at my house now that I have been volunteering for Habitat for Humanity of Spartanburg for several years."

Marilyn Hollifield , Volunteer and former Board Member -

"We started volunteering to have something to do. We have come to know that volunteering in the ReStore has become something we look forward to each week. The Habitat Spartanburg staff really believe in their mission of providing affordable, decent housing for deserving families and this has been the best place we have served as a couple."

Debbie and Allen Stevenson , ReStore Volunteers -
